Other than your interviews for a residency or fellowship position, most housestaff have never had to interview for a job. You have been in school your entire life. Here are a few websites that you will find very helpful during your interview process.
WHO? Remember, YOU are the one with the skill they are seeking. YOU are the one who has been trained in the most current medical techniques and patient care procedures. Your training is a very valuable commodity. It’s your skill and your personality that will put you where you need to be.
WHAT? WHAT spires you about this job/location? WHAT are your (and your family’s) hobbies, interests, religion, etc. and will this location support you to pursue them?
WHEN? Planning for a job does not have to begin in your final year of training. Plan ahead by asking yourself and your family personal and professional questions. The websites below will give you much to think about.
WHERE? Remember that it’s not all about you! You may have a spouse, children and other family members who should be considered in WHERE you practice….and
WHY? WHY will you move there ?
