Program Directors’ Corner
CQI & Research
Now that programs are actively involving housestaff at all levels in continuous quality improvement and patient safety projects, interesting findings from these projects have sometimes resulted in the desire to publish the results of these projects. Issues have arisen both locally and nationally regarding the need for Institutional Review Board oversight of these projects which commonly involve human subjects. I would strongly encourage all program directors to read the document below from the UF IRB about this subject as well as an article from the New England Journal discussing this issue in greater detail.
