In the April 26, 2012 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, John Inglehart, a national correspondent for the NEJM, provides an excellent overview of the issues facing financing of graduate medical education (click to read) as well as a glimpse of some alternatives to the current system. Many experts feel the current system is unsustainable and does not provide enough accountability of GME programs to the needs of the public who finance these programs. This article should be read by all our faculty and housestaff.
