Federal security agencies are now requiring VA network access to disable after 60 days instead of 90 days. This is projected to decrease soon to 30 days. This is despite strong disapproval and concerns from VA’s national Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA).
Three important things for trainees and program directors/coordinators to know about this new practice:
- VA does not require trainees to come to the VA and log in every 30 days. This is an option to preserve access but is not feasible for most programs.
- The network account is disabled but not deleted. Trainees can call the national Help Desk and have the account immediately re-enabled.
Call ext. 10-6093 from within the VA (or 855-673-4357) and press 4 to be expedited as a trainee to the front of the queue.
Please note the account will again disable if not signed in within 24 hours. So it’s best to do this the day before or morning of the rotation.
- DO NOT GO TO THE PIV OFFICE! Even if told to by the Help Desk. There is nothing wrong with your PIV card unless it is expired. Check with the VA Education Office first.
