Requests for new programs or complement increases are accepted twice a year—in August and February.
All proposals (including both ACGME-accredited and non-ACGME programs) are reviewed through a structured, two-committee process:
- GME Program Educational Review Committee
Comprised of experienced GME leaders, including program and associate program directors, this committee evaluates the proposal’s educational quality, accreditation readiness (if applicable), and alignment with the academic mission. - Housestaff Complement Review Committee
Comprised of senior leaders from the College of Medicine and hospital administration, this group assesses operational feasibility and financial sustainability.
Both committees meet semi-annually. Proposals that receive support from both are forwarded to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) for formal institutional approval—a required step before any ACGME submission. Please note that ACGME review timelines vary and are beyond institutional control.
Because this is a multi-step process that can take several months, early planning is strongly encouraged. If you are considering submitting a request, please contact the GME Office at GME-Office@ufl.edu to initiate the process and obtain the required documentation, including the educational plan and financial proforma.
